Worship Pastor Tele-coaching Network with Jason Hatley

October 6, 2011

We just wrapped up our year long network and I’ve experienced such tremendous growth in ministry and leadership because of Pastor Jason’s instruction and encouragement. Even the way I see current and future opportunities are vastly different. I feel more confident, knowing how to effectively plan and produce experiences to grow the numbers of servants on my teams, to deepen the spiritual commitment of those involved in our worship services, to maximize my time and increase my availability to people, and to lead up/down/sideways as our team follows God where He is moving.

I would encourage any worship leader to connect with Jason from the Journey Church and invest one year of your life to growing into the leader that God created you to be.

We tried to record a rehearsal, and got some pretty good stuff… until the computer arbitrarily shut off.  Hmmm.  What follows is a salvage of the auto-save before the great loss.  Enjoy Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.

Worship Leader Magazine Review

June 19, 2009

Because of my participation in the Song DISCovery rating process(es), my name was passed onto Worship Leader Magazine’s Managing Editor, Jeremy Armstrong as a candidate for writing an article, reviewing an upcoming Song DISCovery disc.  So right around the same time as I was participating in the 2nd Listening Board, I got the chance to jot down a couple thoughts (< 200 words) about the songs that others had chosen for Song DISCovery volume 78.  To be clear, I didn’t rate these like I did on the listening board.  My gig here was to comment on what others thought would be best for this volume.  The column is called “In Your Words” and I expect to see it in the very next issue of Worship Leader Magazine.  I’ll try to get a picture up when it comes in.  I’m so honored to be a part of the worship conversation in this way.

Song DISCovery Listening Board #2

June 19, 2009

It looks like I’m doing something right, because Phil emailed me again, asking me to participate in rating the newest Song DISCovery submissions.  (The criteria can be found here.)  He said my position in the church as Worship Leader and my thorough feedback and attention to detail are the attractive pieces that move me near the top of the list for this kind of thing.  All I know is that I crave feedback, and think everyone wins when people are looking out for their best interests, whether insane encouragement for a song well written and produced, or a sharp criticism of something that may be disastrous.  Golden rule stuff.

See my personal notes (that don’t get submitted along with the ratings below…  I’ll follow-up with the inclusions on this disc.  We’ll see how closely the other participants’ ratings matched mine.

Song DISCovery Listening Board

May 15, 2009

The editor for Song DISCovery, Phil Sillas, emailed me and asked if I’d like to be on the 8-12 person Listening Board to rate the 25 potential songs for the upcoming CD release. I was absolutely floored… excited beyond words. I received a link to the voting section where I carefully listened to 25 songs and rated them 1-5. I’m looking forward to receiving the next disc in my subscription. What a cool thing to participate in.

Making the Grade – Round 2

April 30, 2009

My new parody (of Lily Allen’s “The Fear”) “The Mere” has reached the Top 5 this week, which makes my second placement on the chart in the Song DISCovery Community.  My parodies seem to do pretty well there.  Perhaps I should save the celebration until one of my originals gets there, but what the heck?  I still think it’s cool that other music ministers are appreciating my stuff.

The Mere

April 25, 2009

Well, the third installment to the forthcoming “You Said It” album is here… The Mere.  A tale of either a totally whacked out pastor or a sampling of a bunch of whacked out pastors, The Mere serves to remind us that growing a church, becoming the superstar in it, or losing touch with making contact with those outside aren’t good things.  Please to enjoy my parody of Lily Allen’s “The Fear” – The Mere…

Making the Grade, part 2

March 18, 2009

Well, the song remained popular through the month and is part of the Top 5 Songs – 30 Days.  Even though it is fairly silly to create Christian rap parodies with a faux-British accent, it seems to be doing well.  I’m glad.
